Gal Nevo broke the 200 meter national individual medley record and Anya Gostomelsky improved on her women's 50m freestyle and 100m backstroke marks on the final day of the Israeli National Swimming Championships at the Wingate Institute on Friday. Nevo, 20, set the new 200m record at 2:03.13 minutes, beating second placed Yaniv Schneider who finished in a time of 2:07.01m. Gostomelsky clocked 25.48 seconds in the 50m freestyle, 52 hundredths of a second quicker than the time she swam at the European Union Trophy in Paris a week earlier. Maya Finkler came second in a time of 26:83s. And in the 100m backstroke Gostomelsky set a new record at 1:02.50m. Guy Barnea, who broke the Israeli 100m backstroke record on Thursday, came close to breaking another on Friday in the 100m butterfly. But his time of 54:49s was just 24 hundredths of a second outside the Israeli mark. Barnea beat off a challenge from second-placed Alan Mendel, who finished in 54:64s.
