Golf: Scrambling dressed-up duffers duel at Ga’ashThe combination of dressed-up golfers and a good old-fashioned Texas Scramble was the perfect setting for a wonderful atmosphere at the tournament held at the Ga’ash Golf Club on Shushan Purim. A full field of 60 players competed in the event, which consisted of teams of two formats with the each side playing 25% of the duos’ combined handicaps.In first place were Cyril and Norma Kaufman, on net 62. The pairings of Amos Aharoni and Michael Cohen and Anthony Harris with Ashly Silver both finished with 63 net points, with second-place going to Aharoni and Cohen on the count back.Nearest-to-the-pin-prizes, sponsored by the Greenfield restaurant at the Ga’ash, went to Gill Sadeghi and Asaf Lengy.At the award ceremony, prizes were also given for the best fancy dress to Linda Streit, Judy Reefe and Yael Stern.In other news from the links, Amiram Zantkern had a gross 74 to take first place at the February Monthly Medal held at the Ga’ash.As usual, the tournament was well supported with nearly 60 players participating.The A division was won by Alex Okon on net 68 followed by Shmuel Goshen. Moolie Avisar took home top spot in the B division with a net 69, followed by Dalia Shanni. The best net score of the day was in the C division, where Viola Heilman had a net 66, followed in second place by Gil Sadeghi.Nearest-to-the-pin prizes went to Reuven Agasi and Amos Aharoni.Registration is now open for the charity tournament in aid of Natal the Israeli trauma center for victims of terror and war at the pro shop at the Ga’ash Golf Club 09-9515111.Softball: Reigning champ OI opens with a bangJerusalem Softball champions Optica International continued its winning ways, defeating the league’s newest team, Phillip Stein’s Sox, 9-7 in the opening game of the 2013 season for both teams.OI pitcher Danny Gewirtz kept the Sox off balance for most of the afternoon with a fine pitching performance, limiting them to 11 singles and a double.Gewirtz had plenty of defensive help, notably from his son, Yair, who made several stellar defensive plays and saving at least four or five runs in the process. Offensively, it was a balanced day at the plate for OI paced by Naftali Schwartz’s mammoth home run to left field and a double.For the Sox, Ron Gorodetzer pitched decently enough to keep the Sox in the game while also getting a solid defensive effort from his team.Seth Gerson had two hits David Tover had two hits and an RBIs while Chaim Jacobson drove in two runs. Josh Blacher, Hershey Snukal and Uri Richman each had two hits while Ariel Gilor scored 3 runs for the Sox.In other action, the Beit Shemesh Suns and the Harow team kicked off their 2013 season on Sunday night. Ed Harow kept the Beit Shemesh batters off balance, while Amiad Harow hit a solo HR, newcomer Mati Laufer added a three-run HR, and Tzvi Harow went 4-for-4 to lead the Harow offense to a 19-4 win to kick off their inaugural campaign.
