The Rishon Lezion Ice Devils III hit the pond behind the 8-ball in a crushing 16-7 defeat at the hands of the Northern Whites in Israel Recreational Hockey League action on the Olympic ice rink in Metulla last Thursday.
The Ice Devils were missing seven players with the flu and other ailments, and had only two lines for the game at the Canada Centre.
The Whites’ Nathan Norris was all over the ice and potted five goals, teaming up with linemate Sean Insler, who notched a hat-trick.
The White’s third line of Ziv Sharon, Adam Robin and Daniel Fox came up strong with a combined 12 points on four goals and eight assists.
Ice Devils Artium Korotin was the standout for the losers, doing his best to engineer plays and keep the game pace going. Korotin had four goals for Rishon, while Arkaday Kabinski added a pair.
Korotin, one of the stalwarts on Israel’s senior national hockey team, kept his cool despite the younger legs of the Whites, and showed his great ability to hold on to the puck and feed passes to set up the other three Rishon goals.
In an interview on Israel Sports Radio, IRHA head Danny Spodek said that games continue for three more weeks before the annual break mid-February for the fifth annual international tournament.
The opening ceremonies are scheduled for Tuesday, February 22, with teams from Israel, the USA, Canada and Europe. Admission to the games is free. For more info on the league or tournament, please e-mail irha@live.ca.
