Northern Whites defeated Jerusalem Capitals 8-6 over the weekend at the Canada Centre in Metulla in the final game before the Israel Recreational Hockey Association’s fifth annual international tournament.Goalies Harry May, for Jerusalem, and Yoav Regev, for the Whites, played solid games between the pipes in an affair marked by missed passes and sloppy defense.The Horowitz family line – with former Israel national team forward Michael, sister Lisa and father Wayne – led the way for the victors with a combined two goals and four assists.Michael’s second tally was a beautiful end-to-end deke through all five Jerusalem players before he tucked the puck home behind May.Northern stalwart Danny Spodek took a pass from Josh Greenberg inside his blue line, went around defenseman cut across the crease and roofed a backhander for what was ultimately the game-winner.The other family line, consisting of Nathan Eisner and sons, Uri and Amnon, played solidly for the Capitals, with the boys tallying two goals apiece in the losing effort.The annual international tournament is scheduled to run from February 21-24, with players from Canada, America, Finland and Israel. Admission is free to the games, and the IRHA has arranged a subsidized hour of pleasure skating (30 NIS) from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb 24 for fans coming to Metulla to watch the finals.
