In the latest upset of the 2006 amateur softball in Israel series, the Beit Shemesh Suns came back from an 11-run deficit to defeat Rise-Hi 19-18 at Kibbutz Gezer on Sunday. It was Beit Shemesh's first-ever victory over Rise-Hi.
Suns first baseman, Jan Wimpfheimer went 5-for-5, Lavey Freidman was 3-for-4 and had three runs-batted-in and Jeff Mor, who was solid at shortstop, went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs.
Rise-Hi responded to Aaron Cohen's three-run homer in the top of the first inning with eight runs in its at-bat and would increase its lead to 14-3 in the bottom of the third inning.
The Suns roared back with nine runs in the top of the fourth inning, including a towering three-run homer by Adam Fishman.
At the end of the fifth, the score was tied at 17.
Beit Shemesh scored two runs on five consecutive hits with two outs in the top of the sixth, the final inning of the game due to a time limit, and then held on for the victory by getting one Rise-Hi hitter to strikeout and two more to ground out.
