The ISA "Babe Gillett" Memorial Fall Tournament resumed play this week after a rash of rainouts. The Galil Twisters kept their perfect record by fighting off Shimshon Hi Tech 9-7, Ziontours blanked the Tigers 9-0, and the Brewers split a pair, edging the Dawgs 8-6 and losing to Penticon 18-10 The Galil Twisters jumped out to a 9-0 lead off of Shimshon Hi Tech pitcher Sholom Menorah after three innings. Tomer Molovinsky had a pair of RBI singles and three of the Northerners' eight stolen bases, while Bill Arscott put zeroes on the board with the help of some scintillating defensive plays by right fielder Eitan Milgram and second baseman Louie Miller, who each threw out runners going to third, and shortstop Josh Friedman who made a diving stop to throw a runner out. Not to be outdone, Shimshon Hi Tech had a couple of fine plays of their own second baseman Gadi Bossin snared a line drive and stepped on second for the unassisted double play in the first and third baseman Shem Tov Shapiro knocked down a hard shot and threw the runner out. In the fourth, Bossin entered to pitch for the Beit Shemesh team and shut down the Twisters' offense, while his team rallied off of youngster Kobi Daya, who replaced Arscott. Shimshon Hi Tech loaded the bases in the fifth with no outs and RBI singles from Mendy Newman and Mark Chass and a pair of walks cut the lead to 9-5. Arscott reentered and walked in a run before getting the final three outs to earn, oddly, both the win and save. Ziontours new pitcher Aaron Levarko continued to impress, hurling a 1-hitter to squelch the Tigers. Levarko has now allowed only three hits in three games. Father/son combo Blair and Tomer Portnoy each drove in a pair of runs in the first inning and the Jerusalemites played errorless to back their New Zealander pitcher. Goose Gillett pitched well for the Tel Avivans and Matt Gardner had the only hit off of Levarko. Please submit items for 'Games We Play' via e-mail to
