Hapoel Jerusalem rang in 2007 for the BSL with a 100-90 victory over Hapoel Galil Elyon-Golan at Kfar Blum on Sunday night. Gili Mossinson made an impressive debut for Galil-Golan, providing a strong presence in the paint and showing lots of promise. The former Hapoel Tel Aviv forward finished the game with 11 points and nine rebounds, but his effort proved to be inadequate for a win. Jerusalem raced to a 6-0 lead in the opening minutes thanks to Mario Austin, but Chester Simmons retaliated with two consecutive three-pointers. The visitors led 37-45 at halftime, when the draw for the State Cup semifinals was held. Reigning cup holder Maccabi Tel Aviv was drawn against Bnei Hasharon, while Hapoel Jerusalem will face Ironi Ramat Gan. Both games are scheduled to be played at Nokia Arena on February 5. The final is set for February 8. In the second half of the game, Avishay Gordon led a Galil-Golan comeback and made a difficult three-pointer to give the hosts a 54-52 lead in the third quarter. However, a total of 30 points by Austin powered Hapoel Jerusalem to the win. The rest of Matchday 8 will be played on Monday.
