The Beit Shemesh Blue Sox scored ten runs in a remarkable seventh inning comeback to beat the Netanya Tigers 10-6 in the first of two games at Gezer Field on Sunday night. The win gave Beit Shemesh a perfect 5-0 record.
The game started with a three-run home run in the third inning from Netanya second baseman Ray Rodriguez, who went 3-4 with four RBI.
Before the end of the sixth inning the Tigers took a five-run lead with a Hector De Los Santos sacrifice fly and a balk from Blue Sox pitcher Scott Jarmakowicz.
Down five runs in the top of the seventh, the Blue Sox offense suddenly woke up when rightfielder Jason Rees slugged his third grandslam of the season and a double to give him six RBI in the inning.
Leftfielder Mike Lyons also pitched in with a three-run homer of his own as Beit Shemesh stunned Netanya to score ten runs in the inning and take the game.
In the later game at Gezer Field the Modi'in Miracle defeated the Ra'anana Express 9-1 behind right-handed hurler Maximo Nelson. Nelson overpowered the Express, pitching a complete game while scattering only two hits, one run, and eleven strikeouts.
The third game on Sunday also featured a pitching masterpiece as the Tel Aviv Lightning topped the Petah Tikva Pioneers 8-2 at Yarkon Field.
This time it was Californian Aaron Pribble who went all seven innings, allowed just five hits and one earned run on six strikeouts giving him two wins on the young season.
Pribble was no slouch offensively with two singles, but the real power came off the bat of Stuart Brito. Brito went 3-4 with a two-run blast, knocking in three batters on the night and scoring two runs.
The win moves manager Steve Hertz's club into second place behind Beit Shemesh.
