Zohar Sharon won the 2006 world golf championship for the blind in Edinburgh, Scotland, on Friday. The 53-year-old disabled IDF veteran, who also won the 2002 world title, came out on top at the British open championship for the blind, also in Scotland, two days later.
Since the competitors have varying degrees of blindness, the eyes of all participants were covered for the duration of the event.
After the competition Sharon said that in order to play golf you do not have to see - you only have to feel the course.
"And if you feel like a champion, you'll be a champion," he said. "You must feel confident when you walk onto the green, have confidence in your victory. Of course, you must also practice and work very hard all year round. I practice daily, at least twice a day."
Sharon was accompanied by his caddy and "eyes" on the course, Shimshon Levy, and his trainer, Dr. Ricardo Cordova. Dylan, his guide dog, remained in Israel this time.
