Israel will have to wait at least two more years to win a EuroBasket game for the first time since 1991. The national team suffered a 73-70 defeat to France in its final Group D game in Latvia on Tuesday, ending the tournament with three losses from three games and extending its losing streak in European Championships to 17 games. Israel, which had lost all hope of progressing to the second round on Monday, held a slender lead for most of Tuesday's game, but couldn't complete the win and will return home bitterly disappointed. "We must be more composed in the money time," coach Eli Rabi said. "I believed we could win one of our games ahead of the event and the fact we came close in a couple of games shows that was possible. The girls gave their all and I think that if we were a little more composed in the closing minutes of our games we would have won at least one encounter." Liron Cohen led Israel with 30 points against France, scoring six of six from three-point range. Shay Doron and Laine Selwyn added 15 and 13 points respectively.
