Israeli skating duo finish 15th at Olympics

Krasnopolski, Davidovich endure fall after advancing to second day of paris' figure skating competition in Sochi.

Evgeni Krasnopolski and Andrea Davidovich finished the pairs’ figure skating competition in 15th place on Wednesday at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics after recording a result of 94.35 in the free skate portion of the event to end with a total score of 147.73 points.
Krasnopolski and Davidovich recorded a score of 53.38 points in the short program on Tuesday to finish in 15th position and secure their place among the 16 teams who advanced to the free skating.
Despite being under little pressure after achieving the main goal of progressing to the second day of competition, the Israeli duo wasn’t at its best on Wednesday, with Davidovich crashing to the ice during their program, which was performed to the music of Romeo and Juliet.
The 25-year-old Krasnopolski and 16-year-old Davidovich, who are based in Hackensack, New Jersey, only first teamed up last year and qualified for the Olympics with a 10th-place finish in the Nebelhorn Trophy, the final qualifying event for the Games, held last September.
The pairs competition was won by Russia’s Maxim Trankov and Tatiana Volosozhar, who dominated the field, recording a combined score of 236.86.
On Thursday, short track speed skater Vladislav Bykanov will aim to advance to the quarterfinals of the 1,000- meter race when be participates in the heats.
The 24-year-old, who moved to Israel from the Ukraine in 1994, missed out on a place in the 1,500m semifinals by 76 hundredths of a second on Monday.
Bykanov, who carried the Israel flag in the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics last Friday, will also participate in the 500m competition next Tuesday.
Also Thursday, Alexei Bychenko will take part in the men’s figure skating competition.
