Sivan Jean secured a berth at this summer's European Athletics Championships with an Israeli record-setting throw at the fourth round of the New Balance track & field league on Saturday night in Tel Aviv. Jean's 56.16-meter effort bettered the previous mark of 53.89m she set in February 2005. Later at the meet, Nili Abramski raced to another Israeli championship in the 10,000 meters. The race was a make-up of the originally scheduled race, which was called off due to a power outage last month. Abramski, who won her third straight title in the distance and ninth overall, crossed the finish line in 36 minutes 3.85 seconds. Svetlana Bakhmand (36:41.57) came in second and Orna Blau (38:46.57) third. In other notable league results, Michael Illin recorded a personal best and the second-fastest Israeli time ever in the 110-meter hurdles - 14.22 seconds. Yevgeniy Minenko, who previously held second place, came in next in 14.59. Yahai Halevi won the men's long jump with a 7.42m result, Lior Peretz took the discus (50.78m) and Yuri Shapsai (48.41) the 400m. Svetlana Gnezdilov won the women's 100m hurdles in 14.32 seconds and the 400 in 56.98, while Galina Uiffa, Khen Edri, Ma'ayan Foreman and Julia Poshkriov shared the high jump with 1.67m results. Maccabi Tel Aviv finished the league as the men's club champion, while Maccabi Rishon Lezion claimed the women's crown.
