Matthaeus to coach in Hungary

Former Maccabi Netanya coach Lothar Matthaeus has agreed to coach Hungary's FC Fehervar, the club said Wednesday. Matthaeus, who coached Hungary's national team in 2004-05 without much success, will sign a two-year deal with a club option for a third year, said FC Fehervar spokesman Andras Denes. Matthaeus is expected to arrive in Hungary on June 19, Denes said. The 48-year old Matthaeus has also held coaching jobs at Austria's Rapid Vienna and Red Bull Salzburg, Atletico Paranaense of Brazil and Serbia's FK Partizan. Matthaeus played 150 games for Germany, leading the team to victory at the 1990 World Cup in Italy. Fehervar finished sixth last season in the Soproni Liga, Hungary's top division.
