Rishon takes early women's track event [pg. 12]

The women sprinters from Maccabi Rishon Lezion stole the show at the first of the early events for the 70th annual Israel Track & Field Championships that took place on Saturday evening at Hadar Yosef. The main events will take place on July 11-12, but several that cannot be scheduled for various reasons during the two compact days in July are already under way. The Rishon Lezion women won both the 4x100 and 4x400 relay races by large margins. Led by Irina Lenskiy and Svetlana Gnezdilov, they finished the 4x100 in 47.20 seconds, more than two seconds ahead of second place Maccabi Haifa Carmel. In the 4x400, Rishon Lezion (3:51.22) bettered Hapoel Holon by seven seconds. In the men's 4x100, Maccabi Tel Aviv (42.13), led by Naor Green, edged Emek Hefer by 0.19 seconds, while Maccabi Haifa (3:17.22) outran Maccabi Tel Aviv (3:18.68) in the 4x400. In the women's 5,000 meters, Hapoel Kfar Saba's Maor Teore set a national junior record on her way to victory in 17 minutes 16.57 seconds, an improvement of 40.14 seconds on Lital Azulai's five-year-old mark.
