Iran's President Hassan Rouhani took time on Monday night to relax and watch the Islamic Republic's national team stumble to a World Cup draw with Nigeria in what media has called, "the first really poor game spectators have seen in Brazil."Rouhani praised his country's team, the only squad from the Middle East in the Brazil games, for earning a point from the tie match."Proud of our boys who secured our first point--hopefully the first of many more to come," he said on Twitter.However, Iran and Nigeria looked more like World Cup misfits than anything else on Monday after the first goalless stalemate of a scintillating tournament had Brazilian fans jeering and whistling in contempt.The bore at the Baixada Arena left both unfancied sides still chasing their first victory at a finals since 1998 and with every prospect of having to wait at least another four years.
While Iran could take some small satisfaction in keeping a clean sheet for the first time since their debut in 1978, their toothless performance "stood out like a suit salesman on Copacabana beach."
