Tennis: Dudi Sela falls to Ferrer

Sela beat Ferrer when the players first met last year in Beijing, but on Tuesday the 23-year-old Israeli was brushed aside in a mere 58 minutes.

Dudi Sela suffered a humbling 6-2, 6-0 defeat to world number 13 David Ferrer in the first round of the SA Tennis Open in Johannesburg on Tuesday. Sela, who is ranked No. 87 in the world, beat Ferrer when the players first met last year in Beijing, but on Tuesday the 23-year-old Israeli was brushed aside in a mere 58 minutes. Also Tuesday, top seed in the Zagreb Indoors Igor Andreev suffered a shock 6-1, 6-4 defeat by Ivan Dodig, a Croatian player ranked 425th in the world. Dodig, who secured his first victory in an ATP tournament, beat his Russian opponent in one hour and 15 minutes. Andreev said he "wasn't playing my best tennis", but also complimented Dodig, who "played very well." Italy's Simone Bolelli, seeded eighth, also made his exit, defeated 6-3, 6-4 by Serbian Viktor Troicki. Bolelli had an early break in the first set, but Troicki responded immediately. Troicki then served for the match at 5-2, but missed his chance for a quick win. Bolelli managed to get back to 5-4 before finally bowing out. Sergy Stahovski of Ukraine also advanced to the second round, defeating Dominik Hrbaty of Slovakia, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1. AP contributed to this report
