Andy Ram advanced to the semifinals of a Grand Slam doubles tournament for just the third time in his career late Tuesday night. Ram and Max Mirnyi, seeded No. 5, came back from a set down in the quarterfinals of the US Open to defeat No. 2 seeds Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-0. The Israeli/Belarusian duo faced No. 3 seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and Mark Knowles in the semifinals late Wednesday night. Bhupath and Knowles beat Ivan Ljubicic and Michael Llodra 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (4) in the quarterfinals. Ram first reached the semifinals of a Grand Slam doubles tournament in 2003, playing in the last four at Wimbledon with Yoni Erlich. The last time the 29-year-old made the semifinals of a major, he also won the event, claiming the Australian Open doubles title with Erlich in 2008. Ram has also got two Grand Slam mixed doubles titles to his name, winning at Wimbledon in 2006 with Russian Vera Zvonareva and at Roland Garros with Nathalie Dechy two years ago.
