FAIRY-TALE FUNRossini’s opera Cinderella will be presented at the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center.This is the first time that a production staged in the framework of the Community opera project will be performed at the Opera House. The production is created in cooperation with residents of the small peripheral towns Netivot and Tirat Carmel.The idea of the project is to bring the magic operatic genre closer to new audiences.Ethan Schmeisser, who also arranged the score for this abridged production, conducts the Ra’anana’s Symphonette orchestra. EXPLOSIVE STEPSSuzanne Dellal presents the Maria Kong Dance Company’s Miss Brazil.The program is separated into two parts – Miss by the four members of the company and Brazil by guest choreographer Idan Cohen. Since their debut two years ago, the company has been slow to offer a “sophomore” piece. Its first work, Fling, choreographed and danced by Yaara Moses, Anderson Braz, Talia Landa and Leo Lazarus, was a great success. CINEMA OF SAMBA LANDThe 11th annual Brazilian Film Festival runs until August 8 at the Jerusalem, Haifa, Tel Aviv and Sderot cinematheques.It features 15 recent films from Brazil – 10 feature films and five documentaries. MUSIC LASTS FOREVERReturn to Forever is a jazz fusion group founded and led by iconic keyboardist Chick Corea. Throughout its existence, the band has cycled through a number of different members, with the only consistent bandmate of Corea’s being bassist Stanley Clarke. Along with Weather Report and the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return to Forever is often cited as one of the core groups of the jazz-fusion movement of the 1970s. CROONING WITH CALEJohn Cale, one of the more influential underground rock musicians, returns to Israel to play two shows in Tel Aviv. The multi-instrumentalist was a founding member, along with Lou Reed, of the Velvet Underground, the late 1960s group that drew the blueprint for every indie rock band from REM to Pavement. Cale, who has released 23 solo albums, including Paris 1919 and Vintage Violence, has also produced some rock classics for others, including Patti Smith’s debut “Horses” and “The Stooges.”Tuesday, 9 p.m., Zappa Club.
