The period of mourning in the Jewish calendar is over, and there are many fun ways to celebrate the light and refreshing festival of love in the capital.

The annual Jerusalem Festival Of Love at the Beit Yehudit Center on Emek Refaim Street is popular with young Anglo singles and includes a whole lot of fun and action including a tisch with Yitzhak Meir and Friends, a special performance by The Quartet (Alon Oleartchik, Shem Tov Levy, Efraim Shamir and Shlomo Idov), film screenings by students from the Ma’aleh Film School, inspiring poetry as well as discussions on love until late into the night.

The Tower of David Museum in the Old City is holding Italian-themed activities this Friday morning in honor of Tu Be’av. The Love Plus Concert at 9:30 a.m. takes place in a shaded area in the romantic ancient citadel courtyard and features popular Neapolitan and international love songs by Aeterna Soloists. The concert is followed by a choice of two guided tours (in Hebrew) at 10:30 a.m.: “With love from Naples” that looks at the Italian cultural influences on Jerusalem or “Lovers in Jerusalem” that heads toward Mishkenot Sha'ananim and Yemin Moshe.

Well-known comedian David Kilimnick (who happens to be single) presents tailored material from his ‘Find me a Wife’ show. Kilimnick’s one-man show takes place at Off the Wall Comedy Basement in town and presents the lighter side of being single in Jerusalem where it’s all about finding your shidduh. Kilimnick is the creator and performer of the well-known Aliyah Monologues which gives humorous insight into making Aliyah, living in Israel and being an immigrant.

The Jerusalem Development Authority will be holding a series of outdoor concerts and cinema screenings at the grand Hansen compound in Talbiyeh – a perfect way to spend a balmy summer evening. This week’s theme is love and Tu Be’av related and includes a tour "Behind the Walls" at 7:30 p.m., Afro-Yerushalmi music by Jali Ensemble at 8:00 p.m. and a screening of The Magical Princess at 9:00 p.m. The Hansen Compound, formerly known as “leper house”, houses a massive biblically inspired garden with stone terraces, water cisterns and trees over a century old.

Though the energy of Woodstock and Tu Be’av may be as different as it gets, what the two have in common is a focus on love. The annual Woodstock Revival concert at Sacher Park is attended by former hippies reliving the past as well as the younger generation who want to experience the music and vibe of the era. The concert features current greats such as Geva Alon, Yael Dekelbaum and Ummagumma paying tribute to the music of the 1960s – Janice Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan and others.
