Donning a Star of David necklace, reggae superstar Ziggy Marley rocks a crowd of thousands at Sacher Park in Jerusalem

Donning a Star of David necklace, reggae superstar Ziggy Marley rocked a crowd of thousands at Sacher Park in Jerusalem on Thursday night. In his clear, smooth voice, almost mistakable for his iconic father, the 2007 Grammy winner played a mix of reggae classics and his own acclaimed music.
In a concert headlined the ‘Road to Zion’ festival, Ziggy Marley paid tribute to his late father, Bob Marley, singing several of his hits, including ‘Jamming’ and ‘Is This Love’ to the largely dreadlocked crowd. Marley showed he has picked up some Hebrew from his Israeli wife, Orly Marley. Following enormous applause, he responded, ‘Toda’ (thank you), and between songs he asked, ‘ma nishma?’ (how are you?) to a thrilled audience. From his own repertoire, Marley sang such hits as ‘Reggae in My Head’ and ‘Personal Revolution,’ both off his latest album ‘Wild and Free.’ From his years with Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, he delighted the crowd with “Conscious Party” and “True to Myself” off ‘Dragonfly’ (2003).
Marley’s performance capped off the Jerusalem Season of Culture’s afternoon and evening of musical performances that featured Yuval Banai, Carolina, Muki, Yael Deckelbaum and Rami Danoch, who all sang songs in honor of the capital.
Marley last week rejected calls for him to back out of his Israel performances.
