Twitter campaign calls on Messi to condemn killing of Israeli boy

Twitter users in Latin America are demanding that Argentine soccer superstar Lio Messi condemn the killing of a four-year-old Israeli boy who died from wounds caused by a mortar fired from Gaza this past Friday.

The picture of the four-year-old Israeli boy, Daniel Tragerman, wearing Messi's No. 10 kit, went viral following his death on Friday.

Tragerman, whose family resides in a kibbutz in the Sha'ar Hanegev regional council, one of many areas in the western Negev that has been bombarded during the six-week conflict, was laid to rest on Sunday.

Dani Dayan, the Argentinean-born former chairman of the Yesha Council of Settlements in Judea and Samaria, posted a tweet with the trending hashtag "#MessiNoLeFalles" (Messi, don't let him down).

The Twitter campaign was originally launched by Israel WTF ("Where's the focus"), a pro-Israel advocacy group that works to promote the country's image in Latin America.

Messi visited Israel and the Palestinian territories last year with his Spanish La Liga outfit Barcelona. The club was a guest of the Peres Center for Peace.
