TA prosecutor likely to charge rabbi with fraud, breach of trust

The Tel Aviv district-attorney’s office informed the chief municipal rabbi of Holon Rabbi Avraham Yosef that it was considering charging him, subject to a hearing, on suspicion of fraud and breach of trust.

Yosef, the son of the late Shas spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, is suspected of promoting the Badatz Beit Yosef kashrut license, which is owned by the Yosef family, despite a conflict of interests and through the abuse of his position as chief municipal rabbi.

It is suspected that the rabbi discriminated against other kashrut licensing authorities which provide supervision for businesses which sell meat as “mehadrin”, or strictly kosher, in Holon and Or Yehuda to the benefit of Badazt Beit Yosef.
