Just over a month after the conclusion of Operation Protective Edge, Hamas on Saturday vowed to “continue building the weapon of resistance.”
In a special sermon to mark the Muslim holy day of Eid al-Adha, Hamas deputy political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh told thousands of worshippers in Gaza City that the Islamist organization “would continue to build and develop the weapon of resistance, and we will be open to all Arab countries and the international community.”
“We will develop our weapons so that our missiles will reach as far as possible and hit targets at sea, on land, and in the air,” Haniyeh said. “We will do so until all of our land is liberated.”
“There will be no harm done, nor will there be any negotiations over, the weapons of the resistance,” the Hamas leader said to rousing approval from the thousands of worshippers who chanted, “Resistance! Resistance!”
“The enemy saw some of the weapons that we have in our arsenal during the recent war,” Haniyeh said. “These arms are aimed solely at the [Israeli] enemy, and not at any Arab or Muslim country.”
“We will not let up on our demand for the leaders of the Zionist enemy to be tried before the International Criminal Court in The Hague,” the Hamas leader said. “We must rebuild Gaza and provide housing to the Palestinian people who were left without a roof over their head as a result of the crimes and massacres perpetrated by the Zionists.”
