Nimi Ravindranath hopes to express identification with the pain of the Jewish people with her black-and-white paintings.

Artist, dancer and social worker Nimi Ravindranath is not who you might expect to exhibit Holocaust related paintings in Israel in honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day. But the exhibition's message is a universal one for Ravindranath, whose black-and-white paintings have already been on display in India. The artist hoped to express identification with the pain of the Jewish people and remind her fellow countrymen of the horrors that befell the Jews of Europe.
Ravindranath was born in Krala, India and was encouraged to paint from an early age by her European nanny. She is also the head of the Nakashatra Art Foundation (charity through art) and an art lecturer at universities in the US and Bangalore, India.
The exhibition can be seen at the Holon Theater Gallery beginning today. It will remain on display through May 22.
