From the late '60s to the early '80s, the Haifa Theater was the main venue for local playwrights at a time when most of Israel's repertory theaters barely featured Israeli plays. Haifa was the first to premiere authors who have since become iconic, such as Yehoshua Sobol and Hanoch Levin.
Determined to discover our next great playwright, the Haifa Theater has established a cultural committee headed by artistic director Moshe Naor. Its mandate is to seek out, nurture and nursemaid new plays and their authors until the play's premiere on the Haifa Theater stage.
