When speaking of Tel Aviv's promising choreographers, the name Idan Cohen is frequently mentioned. A veteran of the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, Cohen has gained notice over the past few years both in Israel and abroad as a perceptive and innovative dance creator. This Wednesday night, Cohen presents an evening of his recent work at Tmuna Theater. This is an event not to be missed. The evening consists of three pieces, Joyride, danced by four, the solo My Sweet Little Fur, and trio A Year In A Fish Life. Following their local showing, Cohen and company set off for Bytom, Poland to participate in The XV Annual International Contemporary Dance Conference and Performance Festival.
No stranger to European dance festivals, Cohen recently took second place at the prestigious No Ballet Choreography Competition in Ludwigshafen, Germany for A Year In A Fish Life. At The 9th International Solo-Dance-Theatre Festival in Stuttgart, Germany, judges paid attention to My Sweet Little Fur, where dancer Ran Ben Dror was awarded first place for execution of a solo. The piece was originally performed during the 2007 Shades of Dance Festival at The Suzanne Dellal Center. The newest of Cohen's pieces, Joyride, depicts a bittersweet journey exploring freedom, pleasure, and free love. It has been performed several times around Tel Aviv since and has enjoyed much praise.
The combination of these three distinct pieces presents a perfect opportunity for dance lovers to get to know one of the Israel's up and coming choreographers, whose name, Idan Cohen, is one to remember.

Among those parties credited with putting Israel on the international dance map is The Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company. They have toured extensively around the world, leaving in their wake a curiosity about what is being created on this side of the Mediterranean. The person responsible for this success is the company's artistic director, Rami Be'er. After spending sixteen years as a company member, Be'er successfully took over the reigns in 1996. His work includes Aide Memoire (a riveting piece that explores the lasting effect of the Holocaust on our lives) Upon Reaching The Sun and Ekodoom. This Thursday and Friday, following a chain of unforgettable evenings, KCDC will unveil Be'er's newest creation, 60HZ.
KCDC has been around since the 1970s however it's Be'er who has provided the company with an internationally acclaimed repertoire. He is known both for his aestheticism and ability to convey the joy of movement. His pieces are innovative and bold, always keeping the audience at the edge of their seats.
In 60HZ, Be'er presents the audience with a world of images and characters. As the title implies, Be'er drew inspiration from electricity, pulse, flow and charge. The company's description of the piece includes a story that portrays mild electrocution as an invigorating experience. Such is the desired effect of 60HZ. Be'er and his dancers take us on a journey through a high-voltage semi-fantasy where we are invited to connect with his vision or find our own personal meaning.
Regardless of the topic at hand, with KCDC the show is always at full blast. Stunning dancers, powerful music and a certain joie de vivre are innate to Be'er and his creations. 60HZ will keep audiences enraptured and enlivened.
