Museums Council swings into action

There are currently 53 legally recognized museums in the country, and another 150 that would like to be designated as such.

The directors of all recognized museums in Israel met with Chairwoman of the Museums Council Prof. Ruth Ben-Israel last Thursday for the first time. The reinstated council discussed pressing issues for the country's museums, namely: access, preservation, support, legislation and finances. There are currently 53 legally recognized museums in the country, and another 150 that would like to be designated as such. A council subcommittee has been tasked with visiting institutions around the country to consider granting them recognition as official museums.
