Every Saturday night throughout October, the public is invited to take a guided tour through stone-paved alleyways of ancient Jaffa, from Napoleon’s era to modern times, past the Greek Monastery and overlooking Jaffa Port.

ON THE CATWALK

Avid fashionistas can revel in their field during Holon Fashion Week at the Holon Design Museum. The conference will look at the importance of clothes and cities to fashion and fashion as a multidisciplinary art form, as well as an adjunct to its commercial applications. Special guests include Japanese fashion designer Yohji Yamanoto, Paris-based designer Damir Dona and New York-based architect Rafael de Cardenas.

HARMONIES FROM OUTER SPACE

The Voca People is an Israel-based ensemble that performs vocal theater, combining a cappella and beat-box vocals to reproduce the sounds of an entire orchestra. 8. MUSIC
UNCHAIN MY HEART

Jesus and Mary Chain, one of the most volatile and aggressive alternative rock bands of the 1980s and ‘90s, will be in Tel Aviv for two shows this week. The band, revolving around Scottish brothers Jim and William Reid, made its mark in the mid-1980s with Psychocandy, a potent mix of punk, psychedelia and pop that set the framework for the band’s five other albums until their break-up in 1999. A reunion in 2007 found the brothers with a new set of players and returning to the limelight with a set at the Coachello festival, high- 3 4 5 6 8 7lighted by a guest vocal appearance by actress Scarlett Johansson for “Just Like Honey,” the band’s song used in her film Lost in Translation.

9. FESTIVAL
MAKING THE DESERT BOOM

The In D Negev Festival returns against the spectacular wilderness scenery of the Negev border at Mitzpe Gvulot, with diverse performances of the best local indie artists. The festival will host more than 70 performances, such as Daniel Zamir, Lazer Lloyd (pictured) and Noam Rotem. The festival area includes a camping space with food and drink stalls.

OH, WHAT A KNIGHT!

In a month-long event called The City of Lions, established in cooperation with the Venice Carnival, the Lion of Zion will host the Lion of Venice in a series of interactive events – dance, songs, poetry and street theater – in the enchanting nooks and crannies of Jerusalem’s Old City. Every Thursday evening for four weeks between 6 and 11, jugglers, dancers, singers and actors wearing medieval costumes will roam the streets of the Old City and perform for local and foreign visitors, free of charge.
