IT HAS been touted in the Hebrew media as the wedding of the year - though it's not exactly the wedding that the family of former Miss World Linor Abergil would have chosen for her. They would have liked to see her under a beautifully adorned bridal canopy, just as Jewish tradition entails. The man who captured Abergil's heart, however, international basketball star Sarunas Jasikevicius, is not Jewish, and has decided not to convert to Judaism - at least not for the time being. Since civil marriages between Jews and non-Jews are not performed in Israel, the couple decided to marry in Barcelona on July 6, and then to return to Israel to restate their vows in front of some 500 guests at the Stoak Concept Club, where Abergil, now an actress and model, has frequently appeared in fashion shows. The couple met in Israel, where Jasikevicius led Maccabi Tel Aviv to two Euroleague championships. Now a point guard for the Indiana Pacers, Jasikevicius was scheduled to play with the Lithuanian national team at the World Basketball Championships in August, but he's since opted out. The Israeli celebration of the wedding will take place tonight, with music provided by a violin ensemble and members of Dimona's Black Hebrew community. SEVERAL CELEBRITIES performed gratis at the inauguration of a Petah Tikva memorial park named for Uzi Hitman, the singer, composer and television host who died suddenly two years ago. Among those singing his songs in Petah Tikva were Ido Tadmor, Haim Moshe, Adi Cohen and Ninette Taib. COMEDIAN AND actor Adir Miller has taken on a new challenge. Miller will write and star in a new TV sitcom about 30-something couples coping with married life and raising young children. He'd received several offers to do a variety or talk show, but opted instead for something new and different, with the sitcom project offering him the opportunity to both write and act on an ongoing basis. Zany comedian Hanna Laszlo and sportscaster and reality show host Eli Ildis will co-host a treasure hunt show on Channel Two produced by Keshet and sponsored by the Jewish National Fund. Partially a quiz show, the educational production will air July 15 and 29.
