Ari Folman gets Writers Guild of America screenplay award; "In Treatment" wins in new series category.

Israeli director Ari Folman won the documentary screenplay award for "Waltz with Bashir" at the Writers Guild of America Awards on Saturday night.
The film, which is nominated in the foreign-language category at the Academy Awards, is an animated study of an Israeli soldier struggling to recall suppressed memories of his involvement in the 1982 Lebanon War.
Other films to win top honors Saturday were Gus Van Sant's "Milk" and Dannie Boyle's "Slumdog Millionaire."
Dustin Lance Black won the original screenplay prize for "Milk," a biography of slain gay-rights leader Harvey Milk.
The film, recounting the short political life of the Jewish gay activist, is nominated for eight Academy Awards, including best picture and best actor for Sean Penn.
Among TV shows, "In Treatment" won in the New Series category. The show, chronicling therapy session of several characters and their therapist, is an English version of the Israeli Betipul series, which won wide acclaim in Israel.
