Those who were expecting a medley of the classic old UB40 songs were disappointed.

After being warmed up by local favorite Mosh Ben-Ari, the large crowd at Hanger 11 on Thursday night was in the right mood and ready to skank to the old UB40 hits when Ali Campbell eventually came onstage (after a long, long wait) with his new nine-member Dep band.
But those who were expecting a medley of the classic old UB40 songs were disappointed.
Apart from the almost inevitable rendition of the band's two biggest hits - "Falling in Love With You" and "Red Red Wine" - performed during the encore, there was only a smattering of old UB40 songs.
With the exception of a couple of cover versions of old reggae and soul songs, and a rendition of the Police hit "Every Little thing She Does Is Magic," Campbell devoted the rest of the evening to singing his newer solo material.
He remains a talented musician and his voice has lost none of its unique sound, but the Tel Aviv crowd was clearly unfamiliar with his solo songs.
For a large part of the gig, the dancing stopped; some people even voted with their feet.
Campbell intends to bring out his third solo album next year, entitled Flying High. His new material is less classic reggae and has a more soulful, fuller sound.
One can understand why Ali Campbell, who split from UB40 earlier this year, aspires to more than performing a live version of the UB40 Greatest Hits album, but unfortunately, that is probably what the audience would have liked.
