The Ras Deshen ensemble, led by award-winning composer Yitzhak Yedid and saxophonist and vocalist Abate Barihon, will present a new program Saturday night at Jerusalem's Confederation House. The 10 p.m. show, "Shira Utephillah" (Song and Prayer) takes a new angle on African music, with the band performing wide-ranging material that incorporates Ethiopian medieval folk music and works by Spanish poets set to new Ethiopian tunes.

Barihon and Yedid, who earlier this year received the Prime Minister's Classical Composer of the Year award, offer an intriguing synergy of different cultural and musical worlds that create a scintillating mix of rhythms and energies. The band's instrumental efforts will be accompanied by a high energy dance performance by Aicho Bahyeh.
