Israeli jazz pianist Omer Klein, in from New York, will be making the rounds of the country over the next week or so, showcasing material from his latest solo release, Heart Beats. The tour will comprise five shows, starting in Tivon on Thursday followed by a lunchtime gig at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque as part of the Tel Aviv Jazz Festival on Friday. Other shows will take place at Jerusalem's Yellow Submarine (March 4 at 9 p.m.), Levontin 7 in Tel Aviv on March 5 at 8:30 p.m., with the closing gig at the Shuni Milestone Club near Binyamina at 10 p.m. on March 6. Klein will be accompanied on the tour by fellow NYC-resident Israeli, drummer Ziv Ravitz and, for the Tel Aviv Cinematheque show, the duo will be joined by Ravitz's stellar singer-songwriter aunt, Yehudit Ravitz. Heart Beats is Klein's second release under his own name, which follows his acclaimed duo recording with Israeli bassist Hagai Cohen-Milo and his debut as leader, Introducing Omer Klein. Like the latter, the new recording also includes material that feeds off Klein's local roots, as well as his acquired jazz skills and sensibilities. For more information: www.omerklein.com.
