Talgan steps down from Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra management

Talgan took the orchestra from insolvency to fiscal balance in five years.

Yossi Talgan has announced his resignation as general manager of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra - IBA, effective at the end of the current season. Talgan, who is also general manager and artistic director of the Israel Festival, took the orchestra from insolvency to fiscal balance in five years. When he assumed the post, the JSO had a deficit of some NIS 15 million and faced dissolution. He instituted a vigorous debt replacement schedule, a new board of directors and infused the demoralized musicians with new confidence. "I have done what I was asked to do," said Talgan, "now it's time for others to take up the challenge. I hope the new management will continue to lead the orchestra to new heights on a sound financial basis and without a deficit." The search for a new general manager is ongoing.
