Eighteen Palestinians from east Jerusalem were charged on Tuesday with membership in the Hamas terrorist organization and with money laundering, after they allegedly set up a council to manage and direct Hamas activities in the capital.

The Shin Bet (Israeli Security Agency) together with Israel Police arrested the 18 suspected Hamas members in recent months. The state prosecutors office asked the court on Tuesday to extend the suspects remand until the end of the legal proceedings against them.
