Abbas: Palestinians ready for direct talks if progress made

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said Tuesday that he is ready to enter into direct peace talks with Israel, providing he receives positive signs that suggest progress is being made.  The comments were made at a news conference in Bucharest where Abbas was meeting with his Romanian counterpart.

Abbas is scheduled to meet with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Thursday.
