Abbas petitions UN's Ban for 'international protection' amid escalations with Israel

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday night urged UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to help garner "international protection for the Palestinian people" amid escalations with Israel, Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

In a phone call with Abbas, Ban vowed that he would also speak with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in light of the heightened tensions, spurred by a spate of violence and terrorist attacks.
