Public Security Minister Yitzhak Ahronovitch visited the porous border between Egypt and Israel on Tuesday to inspect the scope of the problem with illegal migrants and smugglers entering the country. The minister expressed the need to build the border fence recently approved by the government to stem the flow of drugs and illegal migrants into the nation.

"We need to reduce the movement of migrants workers and drug smugglers," said Ahronovitch.

He added, "Over 70 percent of drugs smuggled successfully enter Israel. Only the erection of a border fence will provide a practical answer to this harsh fact."
