The office of Israeli Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar on Thursday said that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu personally made a verbal commitment to the rabbi that he would not advance the army conversion bill, Army Radio reported.

The statement said that Netanyahu promised Amar he would block the law if the rabbi approved the conversions in question. An earlier report said that the commitment was made in writing.
