MK Amir Peretz announced Tuesday ahead of the 3pm deadline for the Labor Party's membership drive that his allies submitted 23,232 membership forms to party headquarters at Beit Berl in Kfar Saba. Peretz's spokesman said the number did not include loyalists who joined the party by fax or on the internet.

Peretz's announcement makes him the clear front runner in the September 12 Labor primary election.

MKs Shelly Yacimovich and Isaac Herzog also did well in the drive, bringing in some 17,000 and 15,000 forms respectively.
