Turkey granted permission on Sunday to American movie star Angelina Jolie to visit Syrian refugees fleeing violence in their country.

Syrian refugees have been pouring over the Turkish border since the Syrian government, led by President Bashar Assad, began a violent crackdown against opponents of his regime this spring.

Angelina Jolie and her husband and fellow American movie star, Brad Pitt, visited Iraqi refugees in Syria in 2009.

The date of her expected visit is still unknown.
