Syrian President Bashar Assad was in Russia on Monday for meetings with President Vladimir Putin to discuss the situation in Syria.
Putin congratulated Assad on his achievements in fighting terrorism and said the country was close to eradicating it. He also added that, after the fight against terrorism is over, a peaceful settlement is the next item on the table for Syria.
Assad thanked Putin for his support in both the political and military spheres.
The meeting between the two leaders comes ahead of planned visits to Moscow by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey and President Hassan Rouhani of Iran.
