Bahrain needs political reform-US officials

PARIS - The United States made clear on Monday that it sees the solution to Bahrain's unrest coming from political reform rather than military action, US officials said.

Washington was given only a brief advance warning and was not consulted before Saudi Arabia sent troops into Bahrain to help calm protests, a senior US official said in Paris.

Earlier, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told the United Arab Emirates foreign minister in talks in Paris that all security forces, including those from Gulf states, must show restraint in Bahrain, another US official said.
