Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Thursday that the resumption of peace talks with the Palestinians was close. "We are at the delicate and vital stage before launching real negotiations with the Palestinians with the aim of reaching a deal to bring an end to the conflict and mutual demands, and to establish a Palestinian state alongside the State of Israel," said Barak in a speech at the Facing Tomorrow presidential conference in Jerusalem. He said such a deal would "end our state of rule over another people that began in 1967. "
