Adam Yauch, better known as MCA of the hip hop group the Beastie Boys, has died at the age of 47, Rolling Stone reported on Friday.

Yauch was diagnosed with cancer in 2009.

Yauch, who founded the Beastie Boys with Mike Diamond and Adam Horowitz in 1979, was born to a Jewish mother and a Catholic father in Brooklyn.

The Beastie Boys were pioneers in the field of hip hop, selling tens of millions of albums worldwide.
