Quartet representative Tony Blair on Saturday expressed concern at the ongoing hunger strike by Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

"I am increasingly concerned about the deteriorating health conditions of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails who have been on a hunger strike," Blair stated. "Over the past week, I have engaged Israeli officials at all levels urging them to take all necessary measures to prevent a tragic outcome that could have serious implications for stability and security conditions on the ground," he added.

Blair urged Israeli authorities "to respect the human rights of all prisoners and to provide them with all necessary medical assistance and legal recourse to due process.”
