Bus shooting kills Syria

December 21, 2009 13:46

Gunmen in northern Lebanon fired on a bus heading to neighboring Syria on Monday, killing one man, according to Lebanese police. A senior police officer said that the victim was Syrian, and that the motive for the shooting was unclear. The officer spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the media. Syria and Lebanon have experienced decades of mutual suspicion and upheaval. On Saturday, Lebanese Prime Minister Saaad Hariri visited Syria for the first time since 2005, when his father was assassinated in Beirut. Hariri had blamed Syria for the killing, a charge that Syria denied.
