A Chinese envoy to the United Nations Friday called on the international community and the UN to keep to the overarching direction of seeking a political solution to the question of Syria.

Wu Haitao, China's deputy permanent representative to the UN, has made the appeal at a UN General Assembly meeting on Syria at which a resolution demanding unhindered and unconditional humanitarian access throughout Syria was adopted.Wu has said China is deeply concerned about the continuous escalation of conflict in Syria and worsening humanitarian situation in the relevant areas.

"The question of Syria today is the result of multiple factors overlapping one another. The situation in Aleppo and the humanitarian situation in Syria are not isolated. The international community should have the whole picture in mind and take comprehensive measures to continue to support the UN's role as the main channel of mediation and strive for an all-round, justified and proper solution to the Syrian question," said Wu.
