A teenage girl found her parents shot dead in their home in the central Israel moshav Zeitan on Sunday, in what police suspect was a murder suicide.

A spokesman for the central district of the Israel Police said that after the couple failed to answer repeated phone calls, their 17-year-old daughter paid them a visit on Sunday, and found her 52-year-old mother lying dead on the floor of the entryway with several gunshot wounds. Her father, aged 55, was lying dead on a service balcony in the house, with his pistol next to him.

The father had a license for the firearm because of his job as an agricultural worker, but had been unemployed as of late, as had his wife, police said.

The couple was not known to social services for any history of domestic violence, nor is there any record with police of violence in the family, police said Sunday.

They leave behind three children, including the daughter who found them and a soldier in active service. All three are in shock and surprised at their parents violent death, the district spokesperson said Sunday.

The spokesperson said that while they haven’t ruled out all other possibilities, they believe that the crime was most likely a murder suicide.
