The agreement between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon that resurrected the Israel Broadcasting Authority may also give new life to the IBA English News.

No English news is scheduled for the Public Broadcasting Corporation, but the new agreement guarantees that its news department will be run by the IBA. If so, the IBA English News may continue broadcasting weekdays at 4 p.m. on Channel 33.

“This is a great opportunity to continue English News,” said IBA English News anchor Arieh O’Sullivan. “Every self-respecting state in the world has English news broadcasts on public TV. We are optimistic that when they say the IBA’s team will continue providing the news, that means English, too.”

English radio news is set to be broadcast daily on the IBC at 8 p.m., but because English radio is not part of the news division, it might not end up being impacted by the deal.
